Recorte por la linea
(Cut through the line)

Regina Jose Galindo 2005
Video performance: 12m 40s
Courtesy of Regina Jose Galindo and Rollo Contemporary Art

Artist Regina Jose Galindo interrogates the pervasive culture of cosmetic surgery in this performance. Filmed in Venezuela, the country with the third highest rate of aesthetic procedures per capita, the artist stands naked while a cosmetic surgeon marks her for the improvements he would make to her body.
As he draws directly over her body, the result is an unsettling mix of intimacy and an objective view of a body to be improved, as he strives to render it as 'normal' as possible, stripping all the traces of individuality.

An image from the video- which says so much
